Summary (pg. 22)

A synopsis is a brief summary of the mian points of the test. It does not give all the details, but outlines the most important parts. You need to identify the main ideas of a text and put them into your own words.

Read the following passage. Annotate as necessary.
Create a synopsis of the passage using only the main points.


FCAs:

1.Cite the S. A."T": Source (where is this passage from? The name of the larger publication)
Author (who wrote this passage)
"Title" (The title of the article.)

2. Include 4 main points for the passage. Be sure to write points in complete sentences and offer SOME detail, but briefly.

3. Nothing from your synopsis is copied directly from the text. If you wish to cite the text, use quotation marks. It is even better to but the passage into your own words.

Type 3
Fictionalizing a non-fiction passage.

Read the following non-fiction passage. Annotate any important facts that students should know from the passage.
You are now creating a story that younger students will read. However, the purpose of your story is to teach these students the material from the non-fiction passage. (Think about how picture books and shows like Sesame Street teach students how to count and sound out letters through stories)

Your story should be exciting and interesting and use story elements discussed in LA class. Be sure to include facts from the non-fiction passage to teach the younger students.

FCAs:

1. Story elements from LA class included (characters, setting, plot, conflict, dialogue, climax, resolution)
2. At least 4 facts from the non-fiction passage. Underline these facts.
3. Correct paragraphing. Remember that your story is NOT one huge paragraph!

Type 3
Sequence/ How-To

You are going to explain how to do something we have been doing in this class. This can be more difficult because you are going to be thorough and accurate in order for someone to follow your directions to complete the task.

Select something that you have learned how to do in this class it can be solving a mathematical problem, conducting an experiment, constructing something, interpreting information, figuring out the meaning of an unknown word, predicting information based on what you read, examining a chart or image, etc.

Use precise language and include all steps in your process, in the correct, chronological order.

FCAs:

1. All steps of sequence in correct, sequential order.
2. Precise language clearly explaining how to complete the task.
3. Use and correct spelling of at least 3 technical terms/ content area terms.
